The Indian Railway Recruitment Boards situated in the different parts of India conducts these Technical Cadre Examinations to recruit candidates for the technical categories’ positions. The selection of the candidates is done generally by giving notification through Employment News / Rozgar Samachar. All the positions are filled on the basis of written tests and interviews. Sometimes, more than one round of tests / interviews could be held to make the final selections. Aptitude and/or translation tests are held to determine the rankings in the merit list. All questions are multiple-choice objective type.
The tests are designed according to the educational standards prescribed for the post. If the number of applicants is large, qualifying tests are held in two stages:

For categories related to operational safety, a psychological test is conducted as well. After the long selection procedures till medical examinations of the candidates, a panel of names is then recommended to zonal railway or the production unit, depending on the number of vacancies.
