XLRI (Xavier Labour Relations Institute) Admission Test or XAT also known as the Xavier’s Admission Test is a National level exam conducted by XLRI (Xavier Labour Relations Institute) to select the most appropriate students for management education. It is on the basis of XAT result that the eligible candidates are short listed and called for Personal Interview and/or Group Discussion. There are more than 70 Management Institutes who are selecting students from XAT 2011.
Candidates attempting the exam are required to have acquired a Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 system from a recognized university or a deemed university. Those completing their final examination by June 10, 2012 may also apply.
XAT usually comprises 3 sections. The three sections last year were:
Analytical Reasoning and Decision Making
Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning
The test was 2.5 hrs in 2008, 2009 and 2010. XAT 2011 was a multiple choice test of 2 hours followed by an additional test of 20 minutes duration.
The three sections last year were: “Analytical Reasoning and Decision Making”, “Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation”, “Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning”.
This was the structure last year:
The Number of Sections: 3 (With an Essay after the test)
The Number of Questions: 101 (It may change time to time)
No of Choices per question: 5
Time given for the paper: 120 min
Time given for the additional test: 20 min
Marks for correct answer: Variable (varying from 1 mark to 5 marks)
Wrong questions may carry negative marks.
(The incremental negative marking of previous years was replaced by 1/4th negative marking.)
Essay Topic: Students are were expected to write an essay of about 250-300 words in 20 minutes. This time instead of essay writing there is a paragraph. “The statesman who would attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an authority which could safely be trusted to no council and senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it.” You have to give Judgement with justification and support it with example.
