UPSC Geologists Exam 2012 Date: 01st December, 2012 (Saturday)
Geologist Exam 2012, The UPSC conducts the Geologists’ Examination for the recruitment of Geologists in the Central Government in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Mines in the Gazette of India.
Geology and its allied disciplines are concerned with the structure, dynamics and evolution of the earth and its natural mineral and energy resources. Hydrogeologists focus on the relation of waters on or below the surface of the earth. The UPSC’s Geologists’ Examination is an entrée into the premier geoscientific organisations like the Geological Survey of India or the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).

GEOLOGISTS’ EXAMINATION, 2012
A competitive examination for recruitment to the posts mentioned in para 2 below will be held by the Union Public Service Commission commencing from the 1st December, 2012 in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Mines in the Gazette of India dated the 15th September, 2012.
The categories of post to which recruitment is to be made on the results of this examination and the approximate number of vacancies in the various posts are given below :-
Category I : (Posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines).
(i) Geologist, Group “A” 300
(ii) Assistant Geologist Grade-I (Group ‘B’) 67
Category II : (Posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources)
(i) Jr. Hydrogeologists (Scientist B), Group “A” 03
(ii) Assistant Hydrogeologists, Group “B” 12
NOTE : 17 vacancies of Geologists and 3 vacancies for Assistant Geologist are reserved for Physically Challenged candidates belonging to the Hearing Impairment Category.
One vacancy of Junior Hydro-geologist is reserved for Physically Challenged Candidate belonging to the (Hearing impairment (Partially).
The above number of vacancies are liable to alteration.
Appointments will be made on a temporary basis in the first instance.
CANDIDATES TO ENSURE THEIR ELIGIBILITIY FOR THE EXAMINATION: Candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfil all eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.
Mere issue of Admission Certificate to the candidate will not imply that his/her candidature has been finally cleared by the Commission.
Verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents is taken up only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/Personality Test.
HOW TO APPLY: Candidates are required to apply online only by using the website www.upsconline.nic.in Brief instructions for filling up the online Application Form have been given in Appendix-II. Detailed instructions are available on the above mentioned website.
LAST DATE OF SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS: The Online Applications can be filled upto 15th October, 2012 till 11.59 PM, after which the link will be disabled.
The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admission Certificate two weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admission Certificate will be made available in the UPSC website [www.upsc.gov.in] for downloading by candidates. No Admission Certificate will be sent by post. All the applicants are required to provide valid active E-Mail I.D. while filling upOnline Application Form as the Commission may use electronic mode for contacting them at different stages of examination process.
